Documents
The document vault — deeds, warranties, insurance, manuals, and invoices, with finance extraction.
What it is — the document vault at /app/documents: one searchable place for your home’s paperwork — deeds, warranties, insurance policies, manuals, invoices.
Uploading a document
Click + Upload document and pick a file. It uploads straight to secure storage, then a details form appears:
- Title — prefilled from the file name; change it to something you’ll recognize.
- Type — one of
deed, warranty, insurance, manual, invoice, orother. - Warranty expiry (optional) — a date; the list later shows warranty until … or warranty expired.
- Home (optional) — link the document to one of your homes.
- Notes (optional).
Save, and the document appears in the list.
Finding and opening documents
Filter the list by type with the Type dropdown. Each row shows the document’s type, linked home, and warranty status. Click Open to view or download it — RenovAI generates a fresh, short-lived link each time, so documents are never publicly reachable.
Editing and deleting
- Edit (✏️) reopens the details form to change the title, type, home link, warranty date, or notes. The file itself doesn’t change — upload a new document for a new file.
- Delete (🗑️) asks for confirmation, then removes the document permanently.
Deleting a home does not delete its documents — they are kept and unlinked (see Homes).
Turning invoices into finance records
Financial documents can do more than sit in the vault. On the Finances page, Import a document accepts an invoice, receipt, bill, statement, or quote (PDF or image). The same files can arrive by forwarding them to the personalized workspace/Home email:
- Saves it into this vault.
- Reads it and extracts the amounts as draft lines.
- Lets you review each draft — edit amounts, categories, dates, and links to a project or home, or delete lines.
- On approve, posts the drafts into the appropriate ledger and preserves allocations and source provenance (or discard to reject the extraction).
See Finances for the ledger itself.
Ask your assistant
The vault is exposed over MCP, including uploads (the assistant mints a signed upload link, sends the file, then registers it):
- “File this insurance policy PDF against the Calgary home, warranty until March 2028.”
- “What warranties expire in the next 90 days?”
- “Open the furnace manual.” (the assistant fetches a fresh short-lived link)
- “Run finance extraction on the invoice I just uploaded and show me the draft lines.”
